Recreation
The Stewardship Program provides opportunities for individuals and groups to participate in a variety of outdoor recreation programs including canoeing, kayaking, nature hikes and fishing. You can experience and explore the San Joaquin River while participating in challenging activities that promote stewardship, leadership, teamwork and physical fitness.

Canoeing and Kayaking
Get outdoors and on the water by participating in the San
Joaquin River canoeing and kayaking programs this year. No experience is necessary!
Build self-confidence, learn how to paddle, and get in shape by taking an
instructional class, going on a river trip or competing in a race. Make
new friends, learn valuable leadership and team building skills and create
memories that will last a lifetime. Canoeing and kayaking not only promote
physical fitness but create a passion for life and the natural environment. The Stewardship Program has activities for all ages and abilities, schools, groups and individuals.

Nature Hikes
"The
woods were my Ritalin. Nature calmed me, focused me, and yet excited my
senses."— Richard Louv,
"Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit
Disorder"
Connect your
family with California’s great outdoors! Turn off the TV, put away the video games and get a dose of nature! The Stewardship Program sponsors nature
hikes along the San Joaquin River that will allow you to see wildlife, exercise, create family bonds and develop life-long
memories. Favorite activities include
bird watching, animal tracking, native plant identification and scavenger hunts.

The Stewardship Program works with the San Joaquin River Conservancy to offer programs in the San Joaquin River Parkway and with the Meyers Water Bank and Wildlife Project to offer programs at the Mendota Wetlands. Check out our event calendar for current events or contact the Stewardship Program to plan an event.
Fishing
Lets go fishing! You can go fishing
for bass, crappie and bluegill at the ponds at the Ball Ranch . You can also go fishing for rainbow trout and bass by canoe or kayak on the San Joaquin River. The Stewardship Program has all the equipment you need and our experienced staff will provide instruction. Fishing can be included as an activity in a school field trip or planed as an event for your group.
